Uma camera que filma luz refletida

O MIT, que é uma importante universidade nos EUA no ramo de pesquisas de novas tecnologias, está trabalhando um sistema de captura de imagens que consegue ver objetos em que a câmera esteja em linha direta com o objeto. Não parece muito util, mas entenda. Não seria prático apontar uma camera para uma porta entre aberta e facilmente ver o que há dentro de um quarto?

Eu sei que poderia ser utilizado raio-x ou imagens térmicas, mas neste caso, captação de imagens refletidas pode ser mais interessante. Ainda está em fase inicial de desenvolvimento e o protótipo funcional utiliza laser para iluminar o ambiente e assim criar a imagem, ainda que de maneira básica.

A utilização desta tecnologia pode se demonstrar bastante útil para policias e militares assim como na medicina, para, por exemplo, fazer endoscopia. Veja mais detalhes na BBC. O video abaixo mostra uma apresentação da tecnologia que é chamada de Femto-fotografia, pois é utilizado pequenos pulsos de laser que duram 1 femto segundo.
